What do two bulges achieve?

They split the way into two sections. After the first bulge comes a narrowing where everything can settle before the second follows. That is more comfortable than a continuous rise, because nothing presses in between. How much of it you use is decided anew at each bulge.

Can I leave it in?

In the waist between the bulges it sits calmly. The standing base is smaller than on the wedge-base models, though, so it is meant less for hours of wear than for active use. For long sessions the wedge-base models of this range are the better choice.
