With the lock open and a finger’s width of room. Open the padlock, place the wrists in the two openings and secure the bar again. Because the width cannot be adjusted, check beforehand that a finger fits between metal and skin. If no finger fits, you do not lock them.

The keys, circulation and a stop signal. Before locking, put one key within reach and the second in a fixed place you both know; steel cannot be cut open in an emergency. Keep an eye on hands and fingers staying warm and mobile, and open at once at tingling, numbness or discolouration.
