How do you put them on?

With the lock open, one wrist per bow. Open the padlock, place each wrist in its bow and lock it again at the top. As the width cannot be adjusted, check beforehand that a finger fits between metal and skin. If it is tighter, you do not lock it.

What do you need to watch for safety?

The key, circulation and a stop signal. Before locking, put the key within reach in a place you both know, because steel cannot be cut open in an emergency. Check at short intervals that hands and fingers stay warm, mobile and normally coloured; at tingling or numbness they are opened at once.
