How do you close them properly?

Put the cuff around the wrist and slide the bow slowly into the housing until it clicks. Stop while one finger still has room between metal and skin. Each cuff closes further easily, but only opens with the key.

What do you do if a key is missing?

That is why there are two. Before closing, put one key within reach and the second in a fixed place you both know. If one gets mislaid, you fetch the other.

Why do metal cuffs press?
