The Jockstrap 005 by BURN is, like every jockstrap, a pouch at the front and open at the back: two straps run around the buttocks without covering them. This lingerie-look version has a slightly sheer pouch in a black lace look, a wide black waistband with a red BURN logo and black rear straps. A centre seam gives the pouch its shape. The rear straps start at the sides of the waistband and run diagonally down to the leg openings. Take it off by the waistband, not by the pouch. It sits under lingerie, under sex toys for men and in our bottoms up section.

How should a jockstrap sit?

The wide waistband sits on the hips, and the two straps run under the buttocks, not on top. Worn high they leave a pressure mark after an hour.

Which size do you take?

Your usual size; the Jockstrap 005 comes in S, M, L and XL. The pouch should hold without pressing: too small it constricts, too large it holds nothing. Try it on before it matters, because anything that pinches comes off after ten minutes.

How is it washed?

At thirty degrees, without fabric softener, dried flat. The tumble dryer takes the tension out of the elastane. Wash it separately from other colours the first few times. A laundry net stops the rear straps from wrapping around other items in the machine.

What is the fabric made of?

80% polyester and 20% elastane. The elastane makes the fabric stretch so it moves with you; the polyester hardly creases and dries quickly after washing.

What was the design originally for?

For sport, and there it has stayed the same for over a hundred years: support at the front, air at the back so nothing chafes. Today it is mostly worn for a different reason, and that is just as legitimate; it changes nothing about the fit.
