Does the gel numb?

Lidocaine or a similar agent is not included. The menthol can feel slightly numbing, though, and lower sensitivity a little, which matters in anal play.

What do you watch for in anal play?

Pain is a warning signal and must not be masked: go slowly, stop at once if there is pain or blood. Use plenty of gel, add more early and never switch from anal to vaginal contact without washing or a fresh condom. Toys are only used anally if they have a wide base.
