Why does an anal toy need a base?

Because the sphincter pulls inward whatever it can grip, and the rectum has no natural limit. The base stays outside and prevents exactly that. A toy without a base must not be used anally.

Which lubricant fits?

A water-based one, and plenty of it, because nothing gets wet by itself anally. Top up in between rather than pressing harder. Oil and oil-based lubricants attack soft plastics such as PVC. The selection is under water-based lubricant, thicker ones under anal and fisting lubricant.

How do you start?

Lying on your side with your knees drawn up, because that way the sphincter gives way more readily than standing; pushing achieves the opposite. If you leave the plug in place for a few minutes after inserting it, the pressure eases by itself. If it hurts, stop rather than push through.
