An anal douche does one thing, and misunderstanding it thoroughly is the most common mistake: it rinses out the last section of the bowel, no more. Using it daily and with a lot of water irritates exactly the mucous membrane you want to protect - it dries out, becomes sensitive and tears more easily. So: lukewarm tap water, no soap, no salt and no additives; one or two fillings, not six; and half an hour to an hour afterwards until everything has settled. Insert with lubricant and without force, empty over the toilet. In practice it goes like this: squeeze the bulb, hold the nozzle in the water, let go so it fills. The nozzle gets lubricant, is inserted a few centimetres deep and without force. Then the bulb is squeezed slowly, you wait briefly and release over the toilet. Two rounds are almost always enough. Anyone who feels pain or sees blood stops and waits a few days - that is not a sign to do it better but one to leave it. With haemorrhoids, fresh tears or a bowel condition the question belongs with a doctor and not in a product description. This douche works with an electric pump and five jet strengths, the tank holds two hundred and ten millilitres. That is exactly where the point lies that no packaging makes: a pump does not measure by itself. Start with the lowest setting and with less water than the tank holds - more water is not cleaner, it only rinses out higher up what belongs there. What water goes in?

Lukewarm tap water, nothing else. Soap, salt and shower gel irritate the mucous membrane; water that is too hot or too cold does too - it should feel tepid, not warm.

How often can you do this?

Not as a daily habit. Regular rinsing washes away the natural protective layer as well. Before the occasion yes, on principle no.

How long beforehand?

Half an hour to an hour. Water can still run out right afterwards - planning for that time spares the unease.

How is it cleaned?
