When soft. Place one half shell around the scrotum from behind, set the second against it from the front and turn the screws in alternately so that nothing tilts. Make sure no skin or hair gets caught in the joint. A drop of lubricant on the inside makes putting it on easier, and metal tolerates any kind.

How tight should the screws be?

Only until both halves sit flush. The ring holds through its fixed width, not through pressure; more force on the key does not make it tighter, it only strains the thread.
