How long does a rope have to be?

A few metres are enough for wrists or ankles; for chest and torso it quickly becomes eight to ten. That is why the same product comes in several lengths: better a piece too long than one wrap too few.

Which knot holds without cutting in?

One that does not tighten further under tension. Anything that pulls closer when you pull does not belong on a wrist. Two fingers must fit between rope and skin, always.
