How tightly do you close the ankle cuffs?

So that two fingers fit between the cuff and the ankle. If the foot or toes turn cold, numb or tingly or change colour, open the buckle immediately. Never leave anyone alone while restrained, not even for a moment, and keep scissors to hand so a strap can be cut through in an emergency.

Can you walk with the chain clipped in?

Better not. Your stride is then severely limited, and anyone whose feet are linked falls easily. Only clip the chain in once the restrained person is sitting or lying down, and release it before they stand up.
