Why is powder needed at all?

Against the tacky surface. TPE and TPR grow sticky over time; a trace of powder takes that back.

Does baby powder work too?

Only without talc and without fragrance. Pure cornstarch does the same - anything else has no business on a toy.

How much do you use?

A trace, not a heap. The toy should be matt, not white - excess is taken off with a dry cloth.

Which lubricant suits it?

A water-based one, and more of it than you would think. Silicone oil attacks soft inner sleeves; suitable ones stand under water-based lubricant.
