How tightly do you close them?

Only so far that one finger fits between cover and wrist. The bow clicks in notch by notch and afterwards only goes tighter; it only loosens again with the key. Someone lying on their hands can also tighten a cuff unnoticed, so check the fit now and then.

How do you keep the keys?

Put the first key visibly next to you before closing, and the second in a fixed place away from the bed. If one is missing, the other is ready.
