The Jockstrap 004 by BURN is, like every jockstrap, a pouch at the front and open at the back: two straps run around the buttocks without covering them. The design comes from sport and has been the same there for over a hundred years. Today it is mostly worn for a different reason, and that is just as legitimate. This version pairs a shiny black pouch with a wide white waistband and white rear straps; a black patch with a red BURN logo sits at the centre front of the waistband. The rear straps are as wide as the waistband, start at the sides of the hips and run diagonally down to the lower end of the pouch. The pouch fabric has a fine vertical rib with small glitter dots; the pouch is cut as a triangle and narrows towards the bottom. It sits under lingerie, under sex toys for men and in our bottoms up section.

How do you put it on properly?

You step into it like a brief, pull it up until the waistband sits on your hips, then arrange everything in the pouch. The straps belong under the buttocks and not on top; worn high they leave a pressure mark after an hour.

Which size do you take?

Your usual size; the jockstrap comes in S, M, L and XL. The pouch should hold without pressing: too small it constricts, too large it holds nothing at all. Try it on before it matters; both show within ten minutes.

What is the fabric made of?

80% polyester and 20% elastane. The elastane provides the stretch; the polyester hardly creases and dries quickly after washing.

How is it washed?

At thirty degrees without fabric softener, then dried flat. The tumble dryer takes the tension out of the elastane. Wash it separately from other colours the first few times.

How do you store it?

Folded flat or rolled in the drawer, away from items with hooks or hook-and-loop fasteners that can pull threads out of the fabric.
