The Ovation Rave by CalExotics is a lay-on vibrator in turquoise silicone shaped like a half moon. On the flat side sits a round opening with an attachment of soft fins that flicker over the skin rather than just vibrating. The ten speeds get stronger one after another, and there is a memory function and a travel lock; the button with a power symbol sits on the front. For travelling there is a chrome protective cap with the XO logo that holds magnetically and covers the attachment; with the cap on, it becomes a closed, round disc. Does it have to go inside?

No. It stays outside, and you rest the opening on the skin rather than pressing.

Do you need lubricant for it?

Yes, a drop. Without lubricant the attachment rubs, and friction in that place becomes unpleasant rather than pleasant after a short while. A water-based one suits every material, whereas silicone gel attacks the silicone surface; the selection is under water-based lubricant.

Which setting do you start on?

The lowest one. From the bottom you can build, from the top you cannot, and the strongest setting feels weaker after a while, not stronger. The memory function starts with the last speed used next time.

How is it cleaned?

It can be washed under running water with a sex toy cleaner. Then let it dry and put it away with the cap on. Further models are under lay-on vibrators.

Can it go in the bath?

Yes. It is waterproof to IPX7 and can be fully submerged, in the bath as well as in the shower. Water washes lubricant away faster, so add a drop more often.

What is the travel lock for?

It locks the button so it does not switch itself on in a bag or suitcase and drain the battery.
