safe Carrageenan is the variety name of this BIOglide version, and the first part of it needs placing: „safe“ is a manufacturer's designation and no promise of protection. What protects against infections is a condom, not a lubricant. Carrageenan in turn is a thickener from red algae that is also used in foods; here it replaces the usual xanthan as the basis of the consistency. The tube of this variety, incidentally, calls itself „medical lubricant“ instead of „natural“, advertised with 100 % organic, an outstanding gliding effect and dermatological and clinical testing. Otherwise it is BIOglide as usual: water base, compatible with silicone toys, washable off with water, made in Germany. One hundred millilitres. It stands with lubricant, under water-based lubricant, with the condoms and in the drugstore section.

❓ FAQ

Does „safe“ protect against anything?

No. It is a variety name. Protection against sexually transmitted infections comes from a condom alone, and no lubricant changes that.

What is carrageenan?

A thickener from red algae that is also found in foods. In this gel it provides the consistency - in place of the xanthan otherwise used.

Is it compatible with condoms?

Yes. The tube does not print it - the sachet of the same recipe does, where „kondomgeeignet / condom compatible“ is stated explicitly. A water base is in any case the base that gets on with latex.

What does „100 % natural“ on the tube mean?

The manufacturer advertises that the recipe manages without synthetic additives and is vegan; the tube additionally carries „dermatologically + clinically tested“. An organic seal from a testing body it is not - it is the manufacturer's own statement.

Does it get on with toys and condoms?

With both. That is the advantage of a water base: silicone oil attacks silicone toys, oil makes condoms unsafe - a water gel has neither problem.

Do you have to top it up?

On longer sessions yes, that comes with a water base. The gel dries in over time; a few drops of water bring it back, and topping up works as well.

How much do you need?

Less than you think: a pea-sized blob, spread out and topped up when needed. Too much gel makes the sensation dull rather than better.
