Anna is the most playful of Bijoux Indiscrets' three vinyl masks: a baroque pattern of blossoms and tendrils, cut from black film. The pattern is mirror-symmetrical and as delicate as lace, with fine net lines between the blossoms and a scalloped edge. In the middle, above the bridge of the nose, sits a small diamond lattice, and small four-petalled flowers are scattered at the top on both sides. Because the film follows the skin rather than sitting on top, it looks painted on in photographs. How does the mask stay on?

It sticks straight onto the skin. There is no band: the vinyl is laid on and pressed down, so the skin must be clean, dry and free of cream. Make-up underneath weakens the hold.

Can you see through it?

Yes, the eyes stay free. The mask reaches from the forehead over the brows down to the cheekbones and runs across the bridge of the nose; it covers the area around the eyes, not the view. That is the difference from a blindfold. It is made for looks, not for not looking.

How often can it be worn?

That depends on how carefully it is peeled off. Released slowly from the edge and stored flat in the card it arrives in, the vinyl survives more than one evening; torn is torn.
