A massage candle is not a scented candle that happens to turn oily: the Luxuria Ardes Sensual is made so that its melted wax goes onto the skin as warm massage oil. The base is shea butter; it contains no parabens, dyes or petrolatum. The scent is fruity and sweet, of grapes. The candle sits in a silver aluminium tin with a lid and a pouring lip moulded into the rim, so the oil runs onto the skin in a narrow stream exactly where you want it. The tin is printed in black, with the Ardes lettering in pink and a small grape symbol. With its lid the tin closes neatly once it has cooled and can be put away until next time. How is it used?

Let the candle burn for a few minutes before the massage until enough liquid oil has formed, then put the flame out and pour the warm oil over the pouring lip directly onto the body. While it burns, never leave it unattended and keep it on a firm, non-flammable surface. Trim the wick before each lighting.

Does the oil not get too hot?

Always check before pouring: put a few drops on the inside of your forearm and only carry on once that feels pleasantly warm. Do not pour it onto mucous membranes or damaged or irritated skin.

Is the oil suitable as a lubricant?

No. It is for external use only, and oil attacks latex condoms. If you need both, add a water-based gel from the water-based lubricant category; the differences are explained in the lubricant guide.

How long does one tin last?

That depends on how large an area you massage. Whatever is not used sets again in the tin and can be melted again next time.
