Does closer ribbing make a difference?

Hardly on the way in, but on the way out it does. Grooves set closer together grip one after another more often, so more edges run over the same distance. Anyone who dislikes that takes a smooth shaft; it only becomes noticeable with little lubricant.

What does the warming effect actually do?

It takes the cold out of the silicone. A toy from the drawer is noticeably cooler than the body, and for many that first moment is the most unpleasant part of the whole thing. The heater brings the shaft to roughly body temperature and needs about a minute for it; it runs on its own button and can also be left off.
