How do the pasties stay on?

By an adhesive surface on the back. The skin has to be dry and free of oil or cream, otherwise nothing holds.

Can they be used more than once?

A few times, yes. The adhesive weakens with every wearing; a drop of water on the surface briefly refreshes it.
