The XL Speculum from the Steel range by Shots is a large, two-bladed speculum of stainless steel for fetish play with a lot of experience. Its blades are strikingly long: the lower one is closed and curved like a spoon, the upper one is an open bow of two bars that meet at the front. At the back both are attached to a dark joint piece carrying a wing screw; with it you set the width and lock it. The ends of the blades are rounded and the surface is polished smooth. The length of the blades and its considerable weight make it nothing for first attempts. It is delivered in a clear plastic bag. How do you use it safely?

Slowly, closed and with plenty of lubricant. Only use it freshly cleaned and disinfected, and only if you are already familiar with smaller specula and stretching play. Before inserting, make sure the blades lie fully on top of each other, and insert them with plenty of lubricant only as deep as feels good. Then open it only slowly and only a little; never force it apart. Before it comes out again, release the wing screw completely and let the blades close fully. If anything hurts, close it at once and take it out. For anal use the joint piece with the screw always stays outside, and you hold the speculum firmly the whole time. As a couple, everything applies only with mutual consent and a stop signal agreed beforehand.

Which lubricant suits it?

Water-based and silicone-based alike. Stainless steel has no pores and is not attacked by any lubricant. With blades this long you need more of it than you think; you will find a selection under water-based lubricant.

How do you clean it?

With warm water, soap and a small brush. Be thorough with the joint piece, the wing screw and the inside of the spoon-shaped blade. Stainless steel may also be boiled. Dry everything well so the screw keeps turning smoothly.

How do you store it?

Lying flat and apart from other toys. Because of its size it fits best flat in a drawer or a bag of its own, where the polish does not get scratched.
