Can both ends be used at once?

That is what the curve is for: one end stays inside, the other lies outside - or both go to one person each. The curved shaft keeps the distance without needing to be held.

Why was the material field empty?

Because it was never filled during the import. The three ticks on the product page named silicone, the field itself stayed empty - which left the device without a material for the shop filter. Silicone now stands on both levels.
