Which batteries does it need?

Two AA cells. If it is going to sit in a drawer for a while, take them out so they cannot leak and damage the contacts.

Can it get wet?

It copes with splashes, but do not submerge it, because the joint to the turning base is not sealed. After use, wipe it with warm water and a product from the sex toy cleaner category and let it dry before you open the battery compartment.
