Is a flat hand easier than a fist?

At the beginning, yes. Straight fingers are narrower than knuckles, so the way in is gentler. For the way there that is a real advantage. The full girth comes later, at the heel of the hand, and that then asks the same as a fist. Anyone arriving there has set the pace themselves.

What is the suction foot good for?

It grips tiles, the bath or a smooth board and frees up the hands. On grout lines or rough ground it draws air; a damp cloth over the spot helps. In the bath the grip is most reliable.

How do I work up to it?
