The jock from the Banana series by Anais Men has a pouch at the front and two black-edged leg straps at the back, leaving the buttocks bare. It is printed with yellow, partly peeled bananas and red lips on a black ground. The wide black elastic waistband carries the white ANAIS lettering between two lion heads at the front, and the lion heads appear again at the back. The fabric is 80% polyamide and 20% elastane. How do you wear a jockstrap properly?

The pouch sits at the front as with briefs, and the two straps lie under the buttocks, not on top of them. If they ride up, they leave pressure marks after a while; then it sits too high or is too small.

Where does the shape come from?

From sport: the jockstrap was developed as supportive underwear for athletes, with support at the front and an open back. Today it is mostly worn because it looks good and shows plenty of skin.

Which size fits?

The pouch should hold without pressing: too small and it constricts, too large and it sits loosely. With 20% elastane the fabric is very stretchy and hugs the body closely. If you are between two sizes, the larger one is usually the more comfortable.

Where does the waistband sit?

It sits on the hips rather than at the waist. Because it is wide, it spreads the pressure over a larger area than a narrow elastic and so cuts in less.

How do you wash it?

Most gently by hand or on a delicate cycle at no more than 30 degrees, without fabric softener and ideally in a laundry bag. Then lay it flat to dry and leave the tumble dryer off.

Is the pattern printed?

Yes, the motif is printed onto the fabric and runs over the whole surface. It stretches as you wear it and so looks a little larger on the body than lying flat.
