The jock from the Benito series by Anais Men is printed with small bicycles in red, yellow, light blue and green, standing in rows on a black ground. A pouch sits at the front, and at the back two printed leg straps run from the crotch to the waistband, leaving the buttocks bare in between. From the front it is cut like a brief, and the edges of the leg straps are trimmed with a narrow black border. The wide black elastic waistband carries the white ANAIS lettering between two lion heads at the front, and two lion heads also appear on the back. The fabric is 94% polyamide and 6% elastane. How do you wear a jockstrap properly?

The pouch sits at the front as with briefs, and the two straps lie under the buttocks, not on top of them. If they ride up, they leave pressure marks after a while; then it sits too high or is too small.

Which size fits?

The pouch should hold without pressing: too small and it constricts, too large and it sits loosely. With 6% elastane the fabric gives, but holds more firmly than underwear with a high stretch content. If you are between two sizes, the larger one is usually the more comfortable.

Where does the waistband sit?

It sits on the hips rather than at the waist. Because it is wide, it spreads the pressure over a larger area than a narrow elastic and so cuts in less.

How is it washed?

By hand in cool water or on a delicate cycle up to 30 degrees, together with similar colours and without fabric softener. Dry it flat in the air, not in the tumble dryer.

How does the fabric wear?

Polyamide with elastane is thin, smooth and dries quickly after washing. Man-made fibre absorbs less moisture than cotton, though; for an evening that makes no difference, on a long, warm day you are more likely to notice it.
