The XL lube applicator by CalExotics gets the gel to where it is needed, not just to where a hand spreads it. Anally that is the difference between a film on the outside and a slippery passage inside. It is made of black, slightly translucent plastic: a straight tube with a rounded tip, two finger rings at the sides and, at the bottom, a plunger with a round push plate. Index and middle finger go through the rings and the thumb rests on the plate, so you guide it with one hand. As the tube is translucent, you can see how much gel is left inside. It is supplied empty; you choose the gel yourself. It is worth it for anything that takes longer. It is no substitute for quantity: anyone using too little gel has the same problem with an applicator as without. Can I use it vaginally too?

Yes, the principle is the same. After anal use, though, it only goes in vaginally after thorough cleaning, never straight after.

How is it filled?

Through the opening, most easily from a gel bottle with a narrow nozzle. A thick gel takes some patience but then stays put. The selection is under anal and fisting lubricant.

How is it inserted?

With some gel on the tip, never dry, and only a few centimetres deep; going deeper achieves nothing and only makes it unpleasant. Then press the plunger down slowly and pull the applicator out just as slowly.

How is it cleaned?

Pull out the plunger and rinse both parts through with warm water after every use instead of just wiping them; then let them dry open and only put them back together afterwards. Gel residue inside is why applicators smell after a few months.
