What does the valve do?

It holds the vacuum that keeps the cup in place and sealed. That same vacuum is why a cup is never simply pulled out: press the rim in briefly first so air can follow, then take it out calmly. Pulling without that step hurts and does not help.

How often does it need emptying?

That depends on the flow, not on the clock. As a rule of thumb menstrual cups are usually worn for no more than twelve hours at a stretch; on heavy days correspondingly sooner.

How is it cleaned?

Rinse it with clear water in between and boil it in water at the end of the cycle. Silicone is non-porous and takes that; soap and disinfectant do not belong inside, because residues irritate the mucous membrane. A sex toy cleaner is not meant for this either. Store it dry and airy, not airtight.

Does lubricant go with it?

A little water-based lubricant makes insertion easier and is harmless. Silicone-based products attack the cup; the selection is under water-based lubricant.
