The Double Pinwheel by ElectraStim is a bipolar pinwheel: two stainless steel wheels sit side by side on curved shafts, and the black handles are firmly joined. The current runs between the two wheels, so the circuit closes inside the device. That is the difference from the unipolar wheel, where the current finds its way to a second electrode on the body. Here the stretch is therefore always the one between the two wheels, a few centimetres. It only works with a suitable electro-stimulation control unit, which is not included. Electro-stimulation does not feel like vibration but like a pull coming from the muscle itself: the current triggers the contraction rather than irritating the skin. Start on the lowest setting, put the wheel on before switching on and lift it off only after switching off. Anyone with a pacemaker, an implant or a heart condition does not use a device like this, not even on a low setting; the same goes with epilepsy and in the time before and after giving birth. Why may this sit above the waist?

Because the device is bipolar: both poles are inside it, the circuit closes in the device itself. The current therefore does not run across the chest; two separate electrodes left and right would do exactly that and are off limits.
