A paddle lands flat rather than on a single point. How sharp it feels depends mainly on the area: a narrow paddle stings more than a wide one at the same swing. Start light and build up slowly; redness is normal, bruises and broken skin are not. Aim only at the buttocks and the backs of the thighs.
