What does the gauge show?

The vacuum in the cylinder. With every pull on the handle the needle moves on a little, so you can proceed deliberately and gently. It only serves as a guide and does not tell you a safe maximum.

How do you let the air out again?

Via the release valve. It releases the suction in one go, after which you take the cylinder off without force. Try it once before you put the pump on for the first time.

Which rules apply when pumping?

Slowly, briefly, attentively. Build up the suction with calm strokes and hold it for only a few minutes at a time.
