A scrunchie by My Own Filo that can do more than hold hair: on the inside of the gathered fabric sits a slim zip, and behind it a small compartment. From outside it remains an ordinary hair tie made of satin-sheen fabric in burgundy that holds a ponytail or bun together or is simply worn on the wrist. In the folds of the fabric the zip cannot be seen while it is worn. The material is recycled polyester (RPET), and at around 10 grams the scrunchie hardly weighs anything in the hair. What fits in the compartment?

Flat small items such as a condom, a tampon, a key or a folded banknote. The ring is too narrow for anything thicker.

Why a condom in a hair tie?

Because that way it is always to hand without anyone seeing it, and it does not get crushed in a trouser pocket. Condoms stand under condoms.

Does it hold hair like a normal hair tie?

Yes. Inside lies an ordinary elastic band; the compartment sits in the fabric around it and changes nothing about the tension.

Does the zip pull on the hair?

It is small and lies in the seam. With long hair it helps to turn the side with the zip downwards while tying.

Does it lose its stretch over time?

Like any hair tie, this one gives a little over time. The zip is unaffected, because it sits in the fabric and not in the elastic.

How is it cleaned?

Most gently by hand in cool water with a little mild detergent and without fabric softener. Then let it dry in the air rather than in the dryer.

What is RPET?

The abbreviation stands for recycled polyethylene terephthalate, meaning polyester obtained from plastic that has already been used instead of being newly made. To the touch it does not differ from new polyester.
