The Slip Aegis by Anais Men is printed with a check pattern in dark and mid grey. The leg openings are cut high, only a narrow strip of fabric remains at the sides, and a pouch is worked into the front. What is the difference between a slip and a brief?

A slip is cut higher at the leg and narrower at the sides, leaving the thighs completely free. A brief ends flatter at the leg and covers more of the hip. If you like plenty of freedom of movement and a skimpy line, the slip is the one to choose.

What is the pouch at the front for?

It is shaped with seams and gives the contents room instead of pressing them flat against the body. That provides support and shows a contour, which is intended with this kind of underwear.

Which size fits?

Take your usual size, because one size down does not look tauter but leaves marks at the waistband and legs. With 5% elastane the fabric gives, but holds more firmly than underwear with a high stretch content. If you are between two sizes, the larger one is the more comfortable choice.

Where does the waistband sit?

It sits on the hips rather than at the waist. Because it is wide, it spreads the pressure over a larger area than a narrow elastic and so cuts in less.

How do you wash it?

Most gently by hand or on a delicate cycle at no more than 30 degrees, without fabric softener and ideally in a laundry bag. Then lay it flat to dry and leave the tumble dryer off.

How does the fabric wear?

Polyamide with elastane is thin, smooth and dries quickly after washing. Man-made fibre absorbs less moisture than cotton, though; for an evening that makes no difference, on a long, warm day you are more likely to notice it.
