A brief in stretchy material sits close, and all the comfort hangs on that: the pouch at the front has to hold without constricting, and the waistband has to sit without cutting in. Neither shows when trying it on but after two hours sitting down. The fabric of 94 % polyamide and 6 % elastane has two sides. The pleasant one: it is thin, stretches in every direction and moves with you instead of pulling; after washing it dries quickly. The other: man-made fibre breathes less well than cotton and takes on odour more readily. For an evening that does not matter, for twelve hours on an office chair it does. The piece comes from Anais Men, a label that deliberately treats men's underwear as lingerie. This version is solid navy with a ribbed structure and comes in size XL. The wide waistband carries the brand lettering. Every size is a separate article, so you choose it through the product and not in the basket, and many ranges also come as a matching top in the same pattern. Which size fits?

Lingerie fits differently from maker to maker. Take your usual size, because one size down does not look tauter but leaves grooves. If you are between two sizes, the larger one is the better choice with stretchy material.

How is it washed?

By hand at thirty degrees, without fabric softener, and dried flat. Softener takes the tension out of the elastane and the elastics, and without tension the brief is just fabric.

How does a brief differ from boxers?

The brief has no leg sections, so the thighs stay free, and at the back it covers the buttocks fully. If you want more fabric on the leg, you will find boxers and other cuts under lingerie.

How is it stored?

Loosely folded in a drawer, not stretched over hangers or clips. The waistband and elastics go slack when they lie permanently stretched.
