The Pussy Pump by Doc Johnson is a vaginal pump with a hand bulb: the pink suction cup goes over the vulva, and the bulb builds the suction through the tube. How long may a sucker stay on?

Ten to fifteen minutes at a stretch is the usual limit. Then release and let the area warm up. If the skin turns pale, cold or numb, the limit has already been passed; remove it at once.

Do marks remain?

Not with short use, but they do with too much pull: the negative pressure bursts small vessels, and that looks like a love bite. Less pull and less time solve it reliably; if vessels have burst, take the next day off.

Who should not use this?

People with clotting disorders or on blood thinners, anyone with inflamed or injured skin, and while breastfeeding. When in doubt, check with a doctor first.

How is it cleaned?

Warm water, mild soap or a sex toy cleaner, then leave to dry. Do not boil the suction cup; the plastic warps.

How is the cup put on?

Centred over the vulva, so that the rim lies flat on the skin all the way round. A thin film of water-based lubricant on the rim seals it, so the suction holds evenly.

How is the suction released?

Most easily by lifting the rim of the cup slightly with one finger. Air then flows in, and the cup comes off without pulling.
