💧 Lubricant – the must-have for pleasant sex and sex toys

Lubricant (lube) belongs in every nightstand – right next to your favourite toy. Whether for classic lovemaking, with sex toys, anal sex or special fetish preferences: lubricant makes sex more fun, safer and more pleasant.

Lubricant provides smooth gliding, reduces friction and protects against injury. It is indispensable for anal sex, sex toys and dry mucous membranes – and it makes ordinary sex more intense too. From water-based through silicone-based to hybrid – here you will find the right lubricant for every purpose.

👉 Combine your lubricant with our dildos, extreme dildos or anal + fisting lubricant for special needs. And keep your toys clean with our sex toy cleaner.

✨ Why lubricant?

  • 💦 Smooth gliding: Reduces friction and makes sex more pleasant
  • 🛡️ Protects against injury: Prevents micro-tears and pain
  • 🎯 Indispensable for sex toys: Especially with dildos and vibrators
  • 🍑 Anal sex: A MUST for anal penetration (the rectum produces no moisture of its own)
  • 💅 Dry mucous membranes: Helps with natural dryness (menopause, stress, medication)
  • 🔥 More intense sex: Adds extra pleasure even when there is enough natural moisture
  • 💎 Many variants: Water-based, silicone-based, hybrid, flavoured, warming, cooling
  • 🧴 Skin-friendly: Dermatologically tested and safe

🎯 Which types of lubricant are there?

Straight to the varieties: water-based lubricant, silicone lubricant, flavoured lubricant, anal + fisting lubricant and J-Lube – the powder concentrate you mix with water to make litres of lubricant.

💧 Water-based lubricant

The all-rounder – compatible with every toy and with condoms. The most popular choice.

  • Compatibility: With ALL sex toys (silicone, latex, glass, etc.) and condoms
  • Easy to wash off: Rinses out with water, leaves no stains
  • Skin-friendly: Usually hypoallergenic and pH-neutral
  • Inexpensive: Affordable and versatile
  • ⚠️ Dries out faster: May need reapplying
  • Perfect for: Sex toys, vaginal sex, anal sex (with reapplying)

💎 Silicone-based lubricant

Long-lasting and exceptionally slippery. Ideal for anal sex and sessions in water.

  • Extremely long-lasting: Does not dry out, no reapplying needed
  • Waterproof: Perfect for sex in the bath, shower or pool
  • Very slippery: A silky feel
  • Ideal for anal sex: Keeps its glide for a long time
  • ⚠️ NOT with silicone toys: It attacks silicone sex toys
  • ⚠️ Harder to wash off: Needs soap to remove
  • Perfect for: Anal sex, sex in water, latex/glass/metal toys

🔥 Hybrid lubricant (water + silicone)

The best of both worlds – long-lasting like silicone, washable like water.

  • Long-lasting: Lasts longer than water-based
  • Easier to wash off: Than pure silicone lubricant
  • Usually toy-compatible: Often works with silicone toys too (check the maker's notes)
  • Perfect for: Anyone who wants staying power plus easy cleaning

🍓 Flavoured lubricant

For oral sex – in flavours such as strawberry, chocolate and vanilla.

  • Tasty aromas: Strawberry, cherry, chocolate, vanilla, mint and more
  • Perfect for oral sex: Makes blowjobs and cunnilingus sweeter
  • Usually water-based: Easy to wash off
  • Often sugar-free: Sweetened without sugar
  • Perfect for: Oral sex, foreplay

🔥 Warming lubricant

Warms up on contact with skin or when you blow on it – for a tingling heat.

  • Warming effect: Pleasant warmth during sex
  • Promotes circulation: Increases sensitivity
  • Perfect for: Winter evenings, massage, extra stimulation

❄️ Cooling lubricant

A refreshing cooling effect for tingling sensations.

  • Cooling effect: Refreshing coolness (often with menthol)
  • Tingling: Extra stimulation
  • Perfect for: Summer evenings, sensation play

🔥 Stimulating lubricant

With stimulating ingredients for heightened sensitivity.

  • Heightened sensitivity: Often with L-arginine or ginseng
  • Promotes circulation: Increases desire
  • Perfect for: More intense orgasms

💊 Anal lubricant

Developed specifically for anal sex – thicker and longer-lasting. See also anal + fisting lubricant.

  • Thicker: Stays where you put it
  • Long-lasting: No constant reapplying
  • Often with caring ingredients: Panthenol, aloe vera
  • Perfect for: Anal sex, anal toys, extreme dildos

🧪 Oil-based lubricant

Natural oils such as coconut oil – long-lasting, but NOT with condoms.

  • Natural: Coconut oil, almond oil and the like
  • Long-lasting: Does not dry out
  • Caring: Good for the skin
  • ⚠️ NOT with condoms: It attacks latex
  • ⚠️ Hard to wash off: Leaves stains
  • Perfect for: Massage, sex without a condom

🔬 Osmolality – the figure that appears on no packaging

Water-based lubricants differ above all in one point that hardly anyone talks about: how strongly they draw water out of the mucous membrane. The more glycerin, propylene glycol or sugar a gel contains, the higher its osmolality – and the more likely it is to dry the mucous membrane out instead of keeping it moist. That is exactly where the familiar feeling comes from when a gel turns sticky after ten minutes and starts to sting slightly. The WHO recommends a value below 1,200 mOsm/kg for lubricants, and ideally below 380 mOsm/kg – body-friendly gels sit around there.

In practice: if glycerin appears near the top of the ingredients list, the gel will be on the sweet, sticky and drying side. Anyone prone to thrush is better off with a glycerin-free gel, because glycerin feeds yeast. And the pH should match where you are using it: vaginally around 3.8 to 4.5, anally closer to neutral at 5.5 to 7. Silicone-based gels avoid the issue entirely – they contain no water, so they cannot draw any out.

  • 🚫 Stings or turns sticky quickly – usually too much glycerin or propylene glycol
  • ✅ Glycerin-free – the calmer choice for sensitive mucous membranes and thrush-prone skin
  • ✅ pH-matched – acidic for vaginal use, neutral for anal use
  • ✅ Silicone-based – no water loss, but not for silicone toys

🎭 Ways to use lubricant

🍆 Sex toys

INDISPENSABLE with dildos, vibrators, extreme dildos and every penetrating toy.

  • Silicone toys: Water-based lubricant only
  • Glass/metal/ceramic: Every kind of lubricant works
  • Latex toys: Water- or silicone-based

🍑 Anal sex

A MUST. The rectum produces no moisture of its own. Use a thick anal lubricant or anal + fisting lubricant.

💋 Vaginal sex

Even with plenty of natural moisture, lubricant makes sex more pleasant and more intense.

👄 Oral sex

Use flavoured lubricant for tastier blowjobs and cunnilingus.

💅 Dry mucous membranes

During menopause, stress, medication or hormonal changes, lubricant helps against dryness.

💆 Massage

Oil-based lubricant is perfect for erotic full-body massage.

🛏️ Sex in water

Silicone-based lubricant is waterproof – perfect for the bath, shower or pool.

  • 🚫 Silicone lubricant + silicone toys = NO: It attacks the material

❓ Frequently asked questions about lubricant

Which lubricant for sex toys?

  • Silicone toys: Water-based lubricant only
  • Glass/metal/ceramic: Every kind of lubricant works
  • Latex: Water- or silicone-based

Which lubricant for anal sex?

A thick anal lubricant (water- or silicone-based), or a special anal + fisting lubricant for extreme sessions.

Can I use lubricant with condoms?

Yes, but water- or silicone-based only. Oil-based lubricant attacks latex and makes condoms porous.

How much lubricant should I use?

Be generous. Better too much than too little – and for anal sex, use plenty.

Is lubricant harmful?

No. Good lubricant is dermatologically tested and safe. Look for hypoallergenic products if your skin is sensitive.

Can I make lubricant myself?

It is possible, but not recommended. Shop-bought lubricant is pH-neutral, hypoallergenic and made for intimate use.

How long does lubricant keep?

Usually 1–3 years (see the date on the packaging). Once opened, use it up within 6 to 12 months.

Can I use lubricant when trying to conceive?

Yes, but use a special fertility lubricant that is sperm-friendly. Ordinary lubricant can impair sperm.

Why does my lubricant sting or turn sticky so quickly?

Almost always because of glycerin or propylene glycol: they draw water out of the mucous membrane, the gel turns tacky and the skin feels irritated. A glycerin-free gel with low osmolality, or a silicone-based lubricant, solves it.

How is it delivered?

In neutral packaging that gives no clue as to the contents, and the same applies to the debit on your bank statement. Shipping within Germany is free, with no minimum order value.
