The pumps: Hydromax and HydroXtreme 🚿

The Hydromax series is the simpler one: it comes as the Hydromax 3, Hydromax 5, Hydromax 6, Hydromax 7, Hydromax 8 and Hydromax 9, plus as the Wide Boy for more girth and as the Hydromax 3 in red at 24 cm. Why water instead of air?

Because water cannot be compressed and therefore spreads the negative pressure more evenly over the whole length. An air pump pulls harder in single spots, which leads to bruising sooner. Bathmate pumps are accordingly used in the shower or bath: fill the cylinder with water, put it on, press out the excess.

Which size fits?

The number in the name is the size class, not a measurement in centimetres. Hydromax 3 is the smallest, Hydromax 9 and HydroXtreme 11 are the largest. A cylinder that is too big builds no proper vacuum, one that is too small presses at the rim. What is the difference between Hydromax and HydroXtreme?

Hydromax is pressed against the body by hand to build up pressure. HydroXtreme additionally has a hand ball with hose and valve, so the pressure can be dosed and held more finely. The Hydromax series is enough to start with; the Xtreme models are the step after that.

What should you watch out for?

Time and breaks. Fifteen to twenty minutes per session is the usual measure, and no more pressure than is comfortable. On numbness, tingling or discolouration, stop immediately. Anyone taking blood thinners, or with a clotting disorder or a curvature of the penis, clears it with a doctor beforehand – a pump is no substitute for a diagnosis.

Which measurements are on file?

Only for five of the 47 articles – for 42 every measurement is missing. That is unfortunate for the pumps in particular, because there the cylinder size is the buying decision. On 15 articles the material is missing as well. The details are on the product pages.

How is it cleaned?

Rinse the cylinder with warm water after every use and let it dry open, so that nothing settles in the residual moisture. For the seal there is the cleaning kit.
