Why silicone rather than plastic?

Because it gives. A hard nozzle goes exactly where you push it, even if the way is not straight; silicone follows the path and yields when it meets resistance. In return the soft nozzle can be guided a little less precisely, which hardly matters at this length. That is why it is usually the more comfortable choice to start with.

How is it connected?

Via the external thread at the lower end: you unscrew the shower head and screw the nozzle by the collar onto the shower hose by hand, tight enough that nothing drips but without tools. If the thread does not catch easily, do not force it. Unlike with an enema bulb, the water then comes straight from the mains; you set temperature and flow at the tap.

How do you go about it safely?

The water stays lukewarm, never hot: check the temperature on your wrist, because inside the bowel you only feel heat when it is too late. Turn the flow on gently before you insert and work without pressure. Only ever let a small amount run in, then stop and empty yourself instead of taking in a lot of water at once. Put a little lubricant on the nozzle first; suitable ones are under water-based lubricant. Silicone-based lubricant is off limits for this nozzle because it can damage the surface of silicone.
