Why does an anal toy need a base?

Because the sphincter pulls inward whatever it can grip, and the rectum has no natural limit. The base stays outside and prevents exactly that. A toy without a base is not suitable for anal use.

Which lubricant fits?

A water-based one, and plenty of it, because nothing gets wet by itself anally; top up as you go. Silicone gel does not suit silicone, it attacks the surface. The selection is under water-based lubricant, thicker ones under anal and fisting lubricant.
