The Stinger from the Merci range by Doc Johnson is an electro wand for the skin: a spark jumps across at the tip, audibly crackling and visible, and creates a moderate sting or tickle. Many people try it once and either like it immediately or not at all. It is built like a prod: a long, slim purple rod on a black grip with a diamond pattern, which also carries the button. It is not inserted, and there are no electrodes inside the body; that changes nothing about the rules for electro-stimulation. It is triggered by push-button, and there is no intensity setting. Who should not use electro-stimulation?

People with a pacemaker, implants or a heart condition, with epilepsy and in the time before and after giving birth. That limit is not a precautionary phrase but the reason the device is not used, not briefly and not quietly either.

Where may the wand be used?

Below the waist only. The current must never flow across the chest; head, neck and heart are off limits. The two contacts sit close together at the tip.

How do you start?

With single, brief touches on an insensitive spot such as the thigh. Only once both know what the spark feels like does it move to more sensitive spots below the waist.

How is it cleaned?

Switched off and with the batteries out: wipe the housing and tip with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry well. It does not go under water, and the contacts stay dry. If it is going to lie unused for a while, take the batteries out so they cannot leak.
